With the defense of his doctaoral thesis on January 29th, LTS lecturer for Dogmatic Theology Tobias Schütze finished his PhD under the title “Yes and No: Lutheran Confessional Foundations of Inter-Church Recognition” [Sic et Non. Lutherische Bekenntnisgrundlagen zwischenkirchlicher Anerkennung] at the University of Münster, Germany, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Anne Käfer.
In his doctoral thesis, Schütze attempts to examine the Lutheran Confession for statements on inter-church or inter-confessional recognition and recognizes an aspectival ecclesiology in the Lutheran Confessions. This in turn results in a cohesion of inter-church recognition and non-recognition, which is only possible through the utilization of law and gospel.
We congratulate him for this outstanding achievement!
